Sharing bicycle knowledge

The University of Twente and the ITC Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation sign an agreement on June 19, with the organisation Interface for Cycling Expertise (I-CE). This marks the start of the Cycling Academic Network (CAN), an international research program on the introduction of cycling in large municipal areas, together with the Indian Institute of Technology, the University of Cape Town. Delegations from Brazil and Botswana join the meeting.

In cities with millions of inhabitants, the bicycle can play a major rol in solving traffic and environmental problems, and in offering more economic possibilities to the people. Dutch knowledge about and experience with cycling and urban cycle infrastructures is, in a way, exported to other countries. The Centre for Transport Studies of prof. Martin van Maarseveen participates in the new network.

The signing session will take place as part of an official programme starting at 16h30 on June 19, in the Auditorium of the ITC Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, Hengelosestraat 99, Enschede.

The agreement will be signed by prof. Martien Molenaar, Rector of ITC, prof. Rikus Eising, Dean of the faculty of Engineering Technology (UT) and drs. Roelof Wittink and ir. Jaap Rijnsburger (I-CE).
